The safest homemade feeder is not the one with the most clever cuts. It is the one every bird can use, you can fully clean, and you can inspect for moisture, sharp edges, and pest access.

A minimum-risk bucket build
Use a clean, food-safe bucket with a tight lid and purpose-made poultry feeder ports whose instructions specify the hole size. That avoids inventing dimensions that may not suit the part or your birds.
