Installation, safety, and buying limits

Installation and size
Separate controller, cord, and rails need alignment. The locking panel is 10 x 12 in; measure the finished passage separately.
Obstruction safety
Do not assume All-in-One safety features apply to the cord-lift PRO. Follow its own calibration and obstruction instructions.
Cold weather
The PRO is rated by ChickenGuard to -4°F. Clear ice from the panel and runners; the rating is not an ice-clearing guarantee.
Warranty
ChickenGuard lists a three-year manufacturer warranty.
Choose another option if
You want app control or a single frame that needs no cord alignment.

ChickenGuard PRO vs Premium

The ChickenGuard model guide lists the Mark-5 Premium at a 1 kg lift limit and 14°F minimum temperature. The PRO raises those limits to 2 kg and -4°F. Both support timer and light operation. Confirm the generation on the controller; names alone do not identify older secondhand units.

The PRO is a cord-lift opener. The All-in-One uses a different mechanism and manual. Choose the PRO for a freely sliding custom panel or the locking-door kit, with enough room above it for the controller.

Installation, door size, and timer setup

ChickenGuard gives the locking panel size as 10 x 12 in, with 23.5 in runners and at least 3 in between the runners and the opener. Those are component measurements. Check the finished passage and full travel before cutting the wall.

Align the cord vertically over the panel, attach it before calibration, and use the setup wizard to set travel and time. The PRO instructions let you choose opening and closing modes separately. In LUX+ closing mode, the timer closes the door if the light trigger has not already done so.

Check when the last bird returns

Watch when the flock goes in before setting the evening close. Adjust the sensor delay or timer to suit that routine, and recheck after seasonal daylight changes.

Winter, battery life, and troubleshooting

A -4°F rating does not mean the PRO will pull through frozen runners. Clear the sill and check that the panel slides freely. Use the recommended batteries or approved power kit; our winter chicken door guide covers the surrounding installation.

After changing batteries

The PRO manual specifies four AA alkaline batteries and says to reset the clock after replacement. Check the battery display and warning light rather than relying on an assumed replacement interval. We have not measured battery life with a loaded door.

When calibration stops short

Check cord alignment, panel attachment, and the path of the bead to the controller. Follow the troubleshooting sequence in the manual for the displayed error, then repeat calibration and supervise the next scheduled cycle.

Predator resistance depends on the door

The locking kit is designed to resist lifting. A custom panel needs its own secure closed position; the opener alone does not provide a latch. See our door security checks for the rails, threshold, and adjacent wall.

Before you rely on it

Read the current manual, inventory every included part, and complete the manufacturer setup sequence. Observe repeated cycles or feeding/recording events as appropriate before leaving the system unattended.

Write down the manual override or fallback, label compatible replacement power or hardware, and show another caregiver how to recover from a failure. Automation is most useful when the backup is boring and obvious.
